Requirements List

SEWING MACHINE Any basic domestic sewing machine can be used for
freehand machine embroidery. Please bring a darning foot for your machine and an extension table if you have one. Don’t forget your foot pedal and power lead!
SELECTION OF SEWING THREADS –
*White / cream cotton thread.
Sylko, Guterman, *Madeira, *rayons, cottons. Try and choose a colour scheme for your design. This works best with shades of one colour.
FABRICS Try and bring a small selection of plain white/cream fabrics, *calico, *cottons, *silk noil *scrim. Select natural fabrics with a variety of textures. These shouldn’t be too heavy or lightweight.
*CALICO To use as your backing fabric, all fabrics should be pre-
washed.

*STITCH ‘N TEAR or VILENE backing support fabric
SCISSORS, PINS, *SPARE MACHINE NEEDLES ( 90,100 (14,16))
VISUAL RESOURCES Bring any pictures or photographs of SIMPLE
architectural images. Eg: windows, doors, arches. There will be some for you to choose from on the course.
Enlarge or reduce your image to approx A5 – A4.
PAPER, TRACING PAPER (as transparent as possible – not greaseproof paper),
PENCIL, FINE BLACK MARKER PEN, PRITT STICK
MASKING TAPE
COLOURED PAPERS for paper collage, selecting colours you might like to use for your design. Eg. sugar paper, magazine papers, tissue paper, painted papers.
OVERALL / SHIRT we will be using fabric paints.
There will be a charge of £2.50 per student for the use of the fabric paints.
*Most of the above items will be available for purchase on the course but it will be useful if you can bring as much as possible.
